Bird-Watchers and Nature Lovers Paradise
Every month, except July, brings a number of birds to the nearby coast, more than 100 species arrive from November through March. Harbor Seals and whales spend time in the area, and the nearby Laguna de Santa Rosa is the second largest freshwater marsh in Northern California and Sonoma County’s richest area of wildlife habitat. A wide variety of bird species are found here including such rare birds as the Laysan Albatros and Emperor Goose with old favorites osprey and white pelican. Although, the area is accessible during daylight hours year round, spring is a peak time for bird watching and spotting other critters including western pond turtles, garter and gopher snakes, river otter, bobcat, coyote, badger, and two federally listed endangered salmon species, the Coho salmon and steelhead trout.
